One of the oldest sports known to mankind, wrestling dates its origins back to the very first Olympics. We are not talking about Olympics as we know them today. We are talking about the Roman Olympics. In such competitions, men would always battle each other in wrestling matches while crowds cheered on. In fact, there are three kinds of wrestling in the United States namely; the Greco-Roman, freestyle, as well as folk style wrestling. Folk style is also called the high school wrestling or collegiate wrestling and is usually only held or used in the US. As far as the international stage goes though, Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling are the most used.
Greco-Roman uses and focuses on all various upper body attacks. In this competition wrestlers, or sometimes mixed martial arts competitors are not allowed to attack the legs of their opponent. In fact, they are not even allowed to touch each others legs. Greco-Roman wrestling, basically uses mostly throws. Freestyle on the other hand, is as the name suggests, is a kind of wrestling where pretty much anything goes. You are allowed to attack the legs, throw your opponent and do just about anything short of killing the other guy.
